What do you love to do, but feel like you don’t have time for?
Hello friends,
Sorry about the wonky email yesterday. I was editing it and it sent the post at the scheduled time while I was in the middle of editing, which has never happened before. How strange!
Oh well. I have to admit, when I first noticed the issue, I was really frustrated, because I’m not able to send multiple email in one day and I really don’t like leaving things so unpolished. But it was a good exercise for me in letting go of the things I don’t have control over. Learning to sit with discomfort is well, not very comfortable. But it is what it is.
Take 5-15 minutes and write about
What do you love to do, but feel like you don’t have time for?
I feel very fortunate that time is currently not one of my major constraints and yet, at the end of every day, there are still things I didn’t have time to complete. Honestly, I love that feeling though. Of course, I don’t enjoy it, when I feel like that means that I am behind and unable to catch up, but feeling like there is something left unfinished but doable reminds me of the Earnest Hemingway quote about his writing process: “I had learned never to empty the well of my writing, but always to stop when there was still something there in the deep part of the well, and let it refill at night from the springs that fed it. I always worked until I had something done, and I always stopped when I knew what was going to happen next. That way I could be sure of going on the next day.”
But there are some patterns to what I prioritize least on my to-do list and generally push to the next day until it has been weeks and I still haven’t worked on it. Generally, my visual arts practices fall into that category. It’s been quite a while since I painted or worked with clay and even longer since I did any sort of embroidery.
I do feel more energy around creating. I love that all of my art supplies are now stored in clear bins and I can see what I have.
Another thing that I love, but often forget to prioritize is reading for pleasure.
I hope you find time to indulge in the things you love.
Your friend,
Laura
